Cindytalk
Phase one - The website
cindytalk.com
Some projects start with a formal proposal or a pitch of some kind, others through less standard means. Back in April we got this lovely email from experimental musician Gordon Sharp:
I encountered EVIL through a chasm.
How much for a simple yet stunningly oblique website? I do a tiny noise thing called Cindytalk and i'm in desperate need.
Being fans of the Cindytalk albums 'Camouflage Heart' and 'The Wind Is Strong' we were straight on the phone! We quickly decided to do something artistic for the sheer joy of it, combined with somewhere where text, interviews, photos and video could be posted and discussed.
The information side to the site needed to be clear yet also have an exquisite, awkward slant so we did some webfont overlaying and brash typography.
We used a rather fabulous jQuery plugin called "isotope" for the sortable grid. Behind the scenes this is a good example of using mostly off-the-shelf Wordpress functionality to maximum effect.
What's really exciting for us is the tiny animation at the top of the site. It's HTML5 Canvas and in Phase 2 this is going to be a link to an interactive piece for creating your own Cindytalk track!... We can't wait!
With Cindytalk, being in the undergrowth is commonplace.we hide in corners and sneak around the edges. Previous websites have tended to emphasise this point but with this new project I invited the EVIL boys to take us into the light and I think they have succeeded brilliantly...
We will spit at the stars as the sun becomes our friend...

Cindytalk music is very often beautiful and haunting yet built on a bedrock of something unfamiliar. Nothing is as it should be. We wanted the site to follow this untypical path also.
